Investing in Ward 10
I’m sure you have heard by now that we are receiving a good chunk of money via a Provincial grant (approx. $24.9 mil)…which is fantastic!!!
And Council has decided to split that money evenly between the 11 Mississauga Wards. Which means Ward 10 will receive approximately 2.1 million to invest in our community…which is even more fantastic!!!
Of course there are a couple of stipulations around the use of this money…the main one being that all projects have to be “shovel in ground ready” for 2009/10.
So the money can not go towards developing a new Ward 10 community centre. The funding for this will come out of a different budget process…and rest assured, I am working very hard on making this community centre a reality for Ward 10, so stay tuned.
So we have 2.1 million to spend in Ward 10, and I felt it wasn’t just up to me on where that money should go. So I engaged the good people of Ward 10 to tell me where it should go. And boy did I get some great ideas!
Everything from creating a ski hill (yes a ski hill) to an indoor rink was suggested. Thanks to all who contributed an idea, it was really a helpful process.
Here is the list of initiatives that we will be considering:
- Washrooms at Lisgar Fields
- New playground equipment and replacing the existing sand surfaces in playgrounds with a safer, rubberized surface
- Splash pads in the north and middle of Ward 10
- Erecting some metal gazebos and benches in parks
- Hand activated crossing signal at Eaglesview Dr. and Erin Centre Blvd.
- Flashing 40 km speed zone signs in front of Churchill Meadows and St. Faustina schools
- A “You are now entering Mississauga” entrance feature at 9th line and Derry
- Pedestrian walkways along Lisgar/Osprey trail with benches and extra garbage cans
- And if there is still money left…zebra striping at all intersections surrounding schools
I think this is a great list and really reflects initiatives that will have a great impact on our family oriented community.
Thank you to everyone who sent me their "Ward 10" wish list. Please feel free to send in any other ideas you might have....there is still time!
I am really looking forward to seeing some of these plans come to fruition…it will really strengthen our community in Ward 10.
