Aggressive, impaired driving enforcement continues

Peel – As the mid-way point of Peel Regional Police's R.I.D.E. Campaign nears, statistics indicate that motorists are not getting the message that drunk driving will not be tolerated in our Region. A recent tragic, yet preventable fatal accident involving an impaired driver has prompted the Officer-in-Charge of Traffic Services to put a reminder out to motorists.

"Impaired related traffic deaths are 100% avoidable.  There are countless alternatives to driving impaired.  Law abiding motorists and pedestrians have the right to be free from the threat of impaired drivers," states Inspector Robert Orr. "The Peel Regional Police will continue to vigorously and aggressively pursue those that chose to drink and drive, and will ensure that they are brought to justice."

The Peel Police’s enhanced Festive R.I.D.E. enforcement team is staffed with Drug Recognition Experts and dedicated officers with expertise in the detection, apprehension and prosecution of impaired drivers. This intensified enforcement will continue through the New Year, however, it's important to remind the public that the Peel Regional Police conduct yearly R.I.D.E. with a mandate of zero-tolerance.

Citizens are reminded that if you witness an impaired driver, or someone you believe may potentially be planning on driving while impaired, please contact police via 911.
