Ward 10 Staff Working From Home

Due to the coronovirus and to do our part to prevent further spread, my staff and I are heeding the advice of public health officials and working from home, meaning the Ward 10 office at City Hall will not be open or occupied for the time being. In today’s technological age, we anticipate this shift will have little impact on the services and response provided by our office to you, our constituents.

The Region of Peel and City of Mississauga have announced several service reductions, postponements and cancellations in an effort to reduce group gatherings and prevent further spread of COVID-19. See below for specifics.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. At this point, self-isolation is key–if you don’t need to go out, please don’t. It’s important that each of us does our part to slow the spread of the virus together. Separately.

News on COVID-19 Changing Rapidly

No doubt you and your household have been following the rapidly changing news related to the coronavirus. It seems as soon as an announcement is made, it is outdated an hour later as another update with new regulations and restrictions comes forward. As of this morning, the provincial government has declared a state of emergency in Ontario, many establishments and entertainment centres are required to close and public groups of more than 50 are to be cancelled or postponed. The Canadian government has closed the border to most non-Canadians and permanent residents. The information can be overwhelming and cause anxiety. Be sure to remain informed via reliable news sources and at a pace and amount that is manageable for your mental well-being. We will get through this – stay positive!

The key message behind the measures that are being imposed is for ALL members of the public to practice “social distancing” as much as possible.

What’s Happening in Ward 10

For the most part and as much as possible, it’s business as usual in Ward 10. I and my team are responding to questions and concerns from residents. We are, however, considering changes to community meetings and public gatherings that have been scheduled through mid-April. In order for the development process to continue, we are trying to reformat the Public Open House about the Tenth Line Medical Facility on April 1 so it can take place virtually instead of in person. Also, our townhall meeting on the flooding in Lisgar scheduled for April 14 may be postponed, but we will consider that more carefully as we get closer. More info on both of these public gatherings will come soon. Construction of our beautiful new community centre continues and, in fact, is expected to ramp up as the weather warms. Construction of the new Pumping Station at Cactus Gate and Black Walnut Trail also remains on track at this time.

What’s Cancelled; What’s Continuing

Most services offered by the City of Mississauga and Region of Peel continue to operate through the COVID-19 pandemic, including waste collection, transit and of course front line emergency services like police, fire and paramedics. The City of Mississauga has closed facilities to the public and cancelled programs and activities until at least April 5. This includes community centres and libraries.
