Letter from Councillor Sue McFadden

Dear Ward 10 Neighbour,

After much thought and reflection, I am writing to share an important decision regarding my future in public service. I have had the immense privilege of serving our community for the past 25 years as your School Trustee and City and Regional Councillor.  Together, we have achieved remarkable milestones in Ward 10, such as new and improved parks and infrastructure, community programs and, of course, our beautiful community centre.  Every initiative has been a testimony to our shared values and commitment to creating a safe, vibrant and inclusive community.

I believe that to build on this positive momentum and make an even greater impact for our community, I must pursue a new path.  Therefore, I am seeking the federal seat in Mississauga-Streetsville to become Member of Parliament with the Conservative Party of Canada.  My motivation is simple: I want to advocate for Mississauga and especially Ward 10 at a more influential level and bring meaningful change here at home—our home. I am taking an unpaid leave of absence as your Councillor during the campaign period.

Should I be successful in the election, I want to ensure that our community remains in capable hands locally.  I am excited to endorse my long time Executive Assistant David Raakman as my preferred successor.  David possesses the passion, institutional knowledge, dedication and vision necessary to build upon our shared accomplishments. He has been part of my team for more than 13 years and is well-acquainted with what it takes to serve as City Councillor. In the interim, he will take the lead in the Ward 10 office during my leave and I know he’ll do an outstanding job.

Please know that I am not leaving you behind.  You are more than constituents to me; you are my friends and neighbours.  I am committed to serving our community no matter where I am, and will continue to work tirelessly to address our needs in whatever position I am privileged to hold.

I am forever grateful for the support you have shown me and my team in the past and would welcome it again as we go through this important political transition. Thank you for your trust and friendship over the years.  It has been my absolute honour and privilege to serve you, and I look forward to the future we can create together.  You will always have a special place in my heart.

Kindest regards,

Sue McFadden
Ward 10 Councillor
City of Mississauga, Region of Peel
