On Thursday, October 26, a statutory Public Meeting was held by Regional Council for the Regional Official Plan Amendment (ROPA) to include the Ninth Line lands within the urban boundary of the Region of Peel. Members of the public were also able to view the proposed ROPA at an Open House held in the community a week before the Public Meeting. This is a key part of the process necessary to fully capture the lands within the Region of Peel and City of Mississauga following the annexation from Halton and Milton that took place on January 1, 2010.
Coming next, Mississauga planning staff will present a report to City Council expected in early December recommending that a Public Meeting be held and that the Draft Official Plan Policies and Schedules be circulated to external agencies. These draft policies were prepared based on the emerging land use concept which was presented to the public back in June 2017. Regional staff are targeting to bring back the ROPA to Regional Council for adoption in early 2018, followed by final approval given by the Province.
I continue to meet regularly with an advisory committee of volunteers members representing the affected ratepayer groups, sharing updates on the progress being made by the Region and City and listening to and addressing concerns related to future development along the Ninth Line.
